What does the world cost? Oh well, then we'll just take a small coke.

Please check your calendars...

If you didn't fall for yesterday's post, please enjoy a hearty laugh and a pat on the back.

If you did fall for yesterday's post, you please endure a hearty laugh and a pat on the back.

Shutting down was our way of putting a goofy fish on your back. This post is our way of removing it.

Our practical joke, though entirely unoriginal and completely hokey, was inspired by a similar one conducted by Google. Some years ago, Google announced on April Fool's Day that it would offer over 2 Gigabytes of storage to users on its Gmail service. That's more storage than an Ipod Shuffle. The internet world was stunned. Offering that much room was an unprecedented act of web generosity. To think, no longer would spam deletion be necessary. No longer would the email entry page warn of impeding capacity issues. No longer would hard drives be necessary.

But then reality hit, it was April Fool's Day. No one could give that much space away free. Saddened but enlightened, Gmail users returned to business as usual without astronomical amounts of free storage space.

Yesterday, however, Google broke the trend of introducing false plans as a joke and actually brought out a real idea for users to evaluate. We here at FCN loved Google TiSP (BETA) so much that, beginning tomorrow, we are publishing our webpage exclusively with TiSP. Maybe it will work for your home as well?

Happy April fools!

P.S. We owe a big thanks to everyone who felt a tinge of sadness at the prospect of losing FCN. Your emotion, though entirely irrational and misdirected, did do a little to brighten our day. There was someone who was sorry to see us go, wasn't there?

4:30 AM: Swim

If you are among the fortunate who are privileged enough to sleep till 5:30 each morning, consider yourself singularly blessed by the Divine. I am among the poor, punished souls who must wake before the sparrow, blue bird, or newspaper boy. Every morning, under the pain of death (10 sets of 200 yard laps of the so-called butterfly stroke for anyone who is sleepy enough to be late), I go and practice liquid flotation. Sadly, I have had to endure this abuse since I joined the swim team a little over two years ago.

Waking up before the crack of dawn to stare at a black line at the bottom of a dimly lit pool is among the most demeaning experiences one can possibly endure. Not only are you half-naked (the speedo suit is more immodest than most of the costumes Christina Aguilera puts together), but a fully clothed coach is on the side of the pool shouting abasing epithets that would make the strongest mental giant cringe.

Every morning I awake to the sounds of Hans Zimmer on my Ipod docked in his Ihome alarm clock. After recovering from my abrupt waking by following along through the opening bars of the third movement of Gladiator, I proceed to don my immodest swim gear. After completion of my swimming preparation, my wonderful mother drives me to the pool.

When I get to the pool deck, I begin my morning ritual. No matter how many sticky notes I put on the side of the computer screen or how many sharpie notes I inscribe on my palm, I always make the same goofs. After realizing that I “accidentally” put my suit on inside out and backwards, I make a quick change in the restroom. I then spend a few minutes looking for my goggles, fins, and paddles, tools that should be left to toddlers but are often used by merciless coaches for training. After returning from the pool, I stand at the edge whimpering and praying for mercy until the official director of drowning (prevention) pushes me into the pool.

Once in the water, I continue my whimpering.

As if all that weren't enough, the water temperature is perpetually out of whack. Whether in the unbearably hot indoor pool in the winter or in a freezing pool in the cool mornings of the summer, the temperatures are always set to the severest hot and cold. Are 90 degrees and 40 degrees but the two settings on the pool heater controls? I know you aren't supposed to answer rhetorical questions, but I should think they aren't! Yet the managers of the pool facilities seek to add more pain to the swimmer’s already miserable state by setting the liquid temperatures to the extremes.

After a few short girly screams that put my manhood to the test, I begin my warm up. After about the first ten minutes of my swimming (twenty minutes after the start of practice), the intense temperatures and strain from the hard workout reduce my memory to 45 seconds and I probably couldn't tell an armed man any more about the practice. The next memory is my fellow swim mates and I recovering in the locker room, but that's a story for another time.

STUDY: FunnyClassNotes.com is easier to type than FunnyClassNotes.BlogSpot.Com

A recent study by researchers at the FCN lab found that typing FunnyClassNotes.com takes less time than entering funnyclassnotes.blogspot.com.

Three participants, who were required to type FunnyClassNotes.com dozens of times, discovered that it only took 7 seconds to type the shorter web address. Under the same controlled conditions, it was found that it required 12 seconds to type funnyclassnotes.blogspot.com. In the end, the analysts of the research were confident that there is a substantial difference in typing time.

Much thought and energy were put into the tests. In an interview with FCN, Daniel, the principle investigator stated, "We planed to have a control group, but we realized that it would just be too strange if we asked people to type FunnyClassNotes.com over and over again."

FCN readers will have a much easier time logging into the #1 Californian conservative student group humor and class notes blog with fewer than ten readers. Considering that most of the readers view FCN daily, it is estimated that the five seconds saved every day will allow the regular FCN reader to conserve 1825 seconds (or thirty minutes and 41.6 seconds) a year.

Travis, one of the three participants, became quite animated during an in-depth interview after the results of the study were released. "Think about it - by saving people all of this typing time, we can more than balance out the $7.20 is cost to get the name FunnyClassNotes.com registered. If we save the daily FCN reader thirty minutes a year and there are almost five daily readers, [assuming minimum wage is $7.50] we are actually saving FCN readers a grand total of $225 a year! That's almost enough to buy the Pink 4GB Nano Ipod I want - and an Idog to match! Of course, this is all assuming time is money."

All in all, the switch to FunnyClassNotes.com is a change for the better.
